SLI - Language Teaching Centre

The Language Teaching Centre (SLI) offers language courses in more than 20 languages, including English, Finnish, German, Italian, Korean, Modern Greek, Persian, Portuguese or Swahili at different language levels for all university students, staff, guests and the general public.

In addition, we also offer conversation courses, courses for special purposes and preparatory courses for language examinations.

We offer small course groups and intensive support by highly qualified and dedicated instructors - native speakers wherever possible. Access to the self-study language laboratory helps to ensure a high rate of learning success. The SLI guarantees standardised internationally-recognised certification according to the European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

The SLI is also responsible for the content and organisation of language courses in the field of profession-oriented skills (BOK) at the University of Freiburg. The Centre for Key Qualifications (ZfS) is responsible for registration and accreditation.

The SLI offers institutions and partners of the University of Freiburg conceptual support and tailor-made courses. Additionally, we organise conferences, congresses and workshops about language politics and language teaching.

EMI - English Medium Instruction

The EMI team, funded within the framework of the 'Quality Pact for Teaching', offers a range of support services to teachers who communicate their expertise in English to a multilingual, multicultural student body. We offer individual and small group training measures to develop and enhance teachers' communicative language skills for teaching in English. Please find more information here.

M5: More Success in the study entry phase

The project "M5: More success in the study entry phase" is funded within the framework of the "Quality Pact for Teaching" by the German Federal MInistry of Education and Research. Its aim is to improve the study entry phase with the help of web-based self learning offers.
