What does the TestDaF measure?

The TestDaF is a standardised language examination that tests abilities in the following four language skills areas: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and speaking. The examination duration is 190 minutes.


How can I prepare for the TestDaF examination?

The Language Teaching Centre of the Albert-Ludwigs-University (Sprachlehrinstitut or SLI) offers courses especially aimed at exam content and preparation. A compact course, which takes place during the semester, offers you the option to prepare for the exam over the long run. The course will follow the textbook “TestDaF Training, Text-und Übungsbuch” (Klaus Lodewick, Fabouda Verlag, ISBN 3-930861-50).

How can I sign up and pay?

You have to register and pay directly at the Test-DAF-Institute. Use the following link:


When do I receive my examination results?

You will receive the results six weeks after the exam date. In cases of urgency, please contact the TestDaF-Institute to request your results sooner. The certificate will be issued by SLI.


What TestDaf scores are required for admission to the university?

You may be admitted to the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg if you attain the TestDaFNiveauStufe 4 in all four of the areas tested.

The exam may be retaken as oft as desired. If you retake the exam the fee must be paid again.
