Cambridge ESOL Exams

Cambridge ESOL examinations can be taken by anyone whose first language is not English. The examinations include all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. They include a range of tasks which assess candidates’ ability to use English, so that in preparing for the examinations, candidates develop the skills they need to make practical use of the language in a variety of contexts.

The Cambridge ESOL website – www.CambridgeESOL.org – gives detailed information on each exam, including the syllabus, sample papers, reports on the performance of candidates, and the list of employers and educational institutions that recognise the exams.

The German Cambridge website – www.cambridgeenglish.org/de – also provides interesting and useful information for students wanting to take the tests in Germany. Information includes FAQs, testing venues, test dates and preparation.

Cambridge ESOL certificates are recognised by thousands of educational organisations and employers throughout the world. They can open doors to higher education and to improved job prospects.

Almost all universities and colleges of higher education in the United Kingdom, along with hundreds of others in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries, accept Cambridge ESOL exams at Council of Europe levels C1 and C2 as evidence that the learner has sufficient language ability to follow a course taught in English. Many other learners take an exam so that they can show prospective employers that they have the language skills needed for a wide variety of careers.
