Teaching in English E-learning Resources

Each e-module contains video tutorials, downloadable resource sheets, links to articles and videos, quiz questions, and a self-learning task with support material. Teachers can learn autonomously, reflect on their communicative skills for teaching English, and use the resources as blended learning material for workshops and one on one consultations.

Lecturing in English - Cohesion through signposts

This e-module addresses how teachers can enhance cohesion in their lectures. Signposts, which are verbal guides used during a lecture or presentation, help students to follow the teacher's line of thought. Teachers who effectively use signposts help reduce the students' cognitive load when learning new content in a foreign language. 
 
 

Teaching in English - Using various types of questions

This e-module addresses questions. Within the framework of Bloom's taxonomy, the module focuses on question functions and question forms. The module provides communicative strategies for using questions and various question forms (linguistic arrangement of questions) in the English-taught classroom.
 
 

Do you speak Denglish or English?

This e-module addresses typical errors German speakers make in English. In particular, the module focuses on Germanisms in vocabulary, pronunciation, and idiomatic language which can inhibit comprehension of English, if only temporarily. 
 
 

Teaching in English - Initiate student input

This e-module addresses communicative strategies and language to initiate student input in English-taught classes. In particular, the module focuses on in-class communicative strategies to activate students and on explicit language to set up in-class tasks.

This e-module addresses communicative strategies and language when handling unclear student input (questions/comments) in your English-taught classes. In particular, the module focuses what can cause unclear communication and provides communicative strategies and language to handle this.

This e-module addresses communicative strategies when responding to student input (questions/comments) and language to integrate your English-taught classes. In particular, the module focuses on categories of student questions and strategies to constructively respond to student contributions.

Teaching in English - Prosody to enhance meaning and effect

This e- module focuses on emphasis, pausing and intonation in teaching. The module provides communicative strategies to enhance meaning and ‘effect’, both of which help teachers capture students’ attention and impart the key take home message(s) from your English-taught courses.
